Cookies management

When you visit a website published by a CNRS entity, some information may be recorded in “cookie” files that are stored in your device’s browser (computer, tablet or mobile phone). This page explains what cookies are, what they do and how you can accept or refuse those that are not essential to the operation and management of the site.

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that contain small amounts of information, including a unique ID number (a session for example, a choice of language, a code designed to protect your browsing activity, the name of the server that stored the cookies and possibly an expiry date), which may be stored temporarily, subject to your consent for cookies that are not necessary for the site to function, on your device’s hard drive when you visit a website using your web browser. Cookies are managed by your web browser and the user can read them by right-clicking on the web page and selecting “Inspect” (“Inspecter le code”).
Only the sender of a cookie can modify the information it contains. A cookie can be either a session cookie or a persistent cookie.
Session cookies only remain active when the browser is open and expire when you close the browser. Persistent cookies are set for a specific period of time. This type of cookie stays on your device until it expires or until it is deleted from the computer using the browser settings or browser extensions.
The cookie does not identify you personally, but only your device’s browser. Some cookies require your prior consent before being installed on your device.

What are cookies used for?

  • Essential cookies
These cookies are exclusively installed by the site editor. They are essential for browsing the site. These cookies cannot be disabled or configured, otherwise you may no longer be able to access the site, the site’s services and/or alter its display. They allow you to use the main features of the site and to secure your connection. The installation of these cookies therefore does not require your prior consent. Their lifespan generally does not exceed the duration of the session.
  •  Functional cookies
These cookies are necessary for operating the site. The installation of these cookies does not require your prior consent. These cookies are used:
** To compile anonymous statistics on traffic and use of the various elements forming the site to allow its editor to administer and improve said site.
** To tailor the layout of the site to the display preferences of your device (language used, display resolution, operating system used, etc.) during your visits to the site, depending on the viewing or reading hardware and software that your device has.
The website of the Economic Analysis and Theory Group – UMR5824 uses the web analytics tool WP Statistics. It can set up several cookies with a lifespan ranging from session time or from a few dozen minutes to 11 months.
  • Functional cookies set up by the Economic Analysis and Theory Group – UMR5824:

    • Third-party cookies:
Some websites may include third-party computing applications that may place social media and advertising, targeting and tracking cookies.
    In particular:
** Consent or refusal services for installing cookies from the Axeptio tool, published by the French company Agilitation chosen by the CNRS for the management of cookies.
** Content viewing services by hosts such as YouTube, Dailymotion, etc. for videos.
** Information sharing services on social media that allow you to share our website’s content with others or to inform them of your visit to the site and your views on its content.
Cookies placed by these third parties may remember the pages and websites you have visited and may collect personal data, such as an IP address, and share it with third parties. These cookies allow advertising agencies to deliver targeted and personalized ads to you. Their lifespan varies from session time or from a few dozen minutes to several years.
The website of the Economic Analysis and Theory Group – UMR5824 that you are visiting has no control over the process used by content hosts and social media to collect information related to your browsing, and associated with the personal data they have.
You can manage your cookie settings. To view some of the content provided by the Economic Analysis and Theory Group – UMR5824, you must first accept cookies from these third parties.

How can you manage the cookies installed by the current Economic Analysis and Theory Group – UMR5824 website?
Cookies that are not exclusively designed to enable or facilitate communication by electronic means or that are not strictly necessary to provide an online communication service at the user’s express request require the user’s prior consent.
Trackers whose purpose is limited to measuring the sites or app’s audience anonymously, to meet various needs necessary for the functioning and current administration operations of a website are not subject to consent.
To manage the cookies installed by a CNRS site, you have several complementary options:

  • Accepting or refusing non-essential or non-functional cookies with the Axeptio certified consent tool that is provided or being installed on most CNRS websites. On the relevant websites, a “Cookie Management” (“Gestion de cookies”) widget button lets you accept or refuse cookies requiring consent, in particular those from third-party companies. Information about the purposes of these cookies is provided by the widget and a link to their privacy policy by clicking on “?”
  • Exercising your choices with third-party companies by viewing their privacy policies. There you will find the purposes of use, in particular advertising, browser data that they can collect using application buttons that are available on the site being viewed, and you will be able to change the settings of your user accounts accordingly to accept or refuse the trackers installed by these companies.
  • Controlling cookies using your browser settings. Most of these trackers can be disabled by setting your browser to only accept trackers from the websites you visit (to refuse third-party sites, select the “Do Not Track” (“Ne pas me pister”) box on most browsers) in your browser preferences. In “Incognito” (“Navigation privée”) mode, cookies will only disappear when you close the browser windows on the site.

How do you change the browser settings?
To manage cookies to best suit your needs, you can choose your browser settings by taking into account the purpose of the cookies:

  • The web browser can be set to notify you before a cookie is installed.
  • The browser can also be set to refuse all types of cookies or only third-party cookies.
  • Any cookies that are already installed on your computer can be deleted.
  • Each browser must be set separately to refuse cookies.
